BANDAR BAHARU, Jan 8 (Bernama) — The decision of no further action (NFA) on the 47 charges of criminal breach of trust, corruption and money laundering involving Yayasan Akalbudi funds linked to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi falls fully under the authority of the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
He said the decision was in line with provisions under Article 145 of the Federal Constitution, which confers upon the Attorney-General the power to initiate, conduct or discontinue any proceedings.
“Whatever decision is made by the Attorney-General, I believe it is made within the legal framework and in accordance with the authority provided by the Federal Constitution,” he told reporters after officiating a Back to School Programme 2026 here today.
Earlier, the AGC, in a statement, said it had decided on no further action (NFA) in relation to the 47 charges of criminal breach of trust, corruption and money laundering involving Yayasan Akalbudi funds linked to Ahmad Zahid.
According to the AGC, the decision also led to the final termination of the case.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin Nasution said the Kulim Immigration Office is now operating from new premises that are more spacious and comfortable, addressing public complaints over congestion, lack of parking spaces and discomfort at the previous location, which was situated in a row of shoplots.
He said the relocation was aimed at improving the quality of service delivery to the public, in line with the increase in the number of transactions related to passports, border passes and the management of foreign workers.
“Service efficiency has also been a focus, with passport applications reported to be processed, approved and issued within about one hour, a performance indicator described as very good for this department,” he said.
Saifuddin Nasution said aspects of comfort and smooth public dealings must always be prioritised, given that immigration services are among the frontline agencies dealing directly with the public.
In addition, he said the strategic location of the new office is expected to provide relief not only to residents of southern Kedah but also to the people of Penang when conducting transactions, especially on weekends, thereby reducing congestion at other immigration offices.
