Nagaenthran’s Death: Fight against capital punishment will continue, says lawyer

SINGAPORE, April 27 – Human rights lawyer M. Ravi today announced the death of his client, Malaysian Nagaenthran Dharmalingam who was executed by hanging at the state prison here early this morning.

In a message posted on his Twitter account, Ravi said the fight against death penalty will continue.

The court here on Tuesday dismissed the final appeal against the death sentence on Nagaenthran who was charged in the court here for drug trafficking.

He was said to be a person with intellectual disability, and used as a drug mule for trafficking drugs into the city. As he waited for his execution for years, his case became an international issue with many seeking to save him from the death sentence.

In a post Tuesday, Ravi said a Malaysian funeral house had offered to bring back the remains of Nagaenthran for burial back in Malaysia.
