Muhyiddin’s statement malicious lie, with ill-intent to create racial disharmony – Guan Eng

Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng speaking to reporters after making a police report against former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin for linking Guan Eng to the removal of tax exemption on Albukhary Foundation.. Guan Eng said Muhyiddin’s statement is ill-intentioned and meant to play up religious sentiments by implying that a former non-Muslim finance minister, Lim Guan Eng, had removed tax exemptions accorded to a Muslim charitable foundation.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 – Former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng today made a police report at the Dang Wangi Police Headquarters here against former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, saying that the latter had made a false and malicious statement about him in relation to the removal of a tax exemption that had been accorded to a Muslim charitable organisation – Albukhary Foundation.

Speaking to reporters after making his report, Guan Eng said that Muhyiddin’s statement was an outrageous lie, and well intended to stir religious and racial sentiments against him by implying that Guan Eng, a non-Muslim had removed the tax exemption given to an Islamic foundation.

First of all, there is no truth to what Muhyiddin has said, Guan Eng said, emphasizing that Guan Eng had never in his time as finance minister cancelled any exemption given to the Albukhary Foundation.

Earlier it was a civil defamation but now it is a criminal defamation as his statement is creating unhealthy racial sentiment as it has been intended as people may end up believing what he said, even when it is not true.

Guan Eng said while he had asked the former prime minister to take back the statement or issue proof of him having issued any letter to remove the tax exemption given to the Islamic charitable foundation.

This is a dangerous slander, and there is no other way but to take legal action so that the police can investigate the matter, he said.

This is something that must be stopped, especially when considering that a former prime minister is using lies to stir racial and religious sentiments against a non Muslim based on a lie.
