KUALA LUMPUR, May 6: The Malaysian Press Institute and University Sains Malaysia have come together to organise a mini forum – Solo Dan Berani or Solo and Brave – for students aspiring to become journalists.
The forum is expected to expose the participating students to the dynamics and challenges of going into the media profession in the present era. The theme of “Solo and Brave” is reflective of the present day need for reporters to be brave and move independently whether in covering events, editing, or presenting news in an efficient manner, a statement from MPI said today.
The forum, aimed at students pursuing journalism and communications studies, will take place on May 8, 2025 at the USM’s Palka Wacana, Pusat Pengajian Komunikasi from 11am to 1pm.
Among the presenters at the event will be leading names from the local media industry including MPI President, Datuk Yong Soo Heong, CEO of MPI Haji Ainol Amriz Ismail, and Margaret Gambang, a television personality, journalist and host.
The forum will be moderated by USM’s Associate Prof. Dr. Nik Norma Nik Hasan (Journalism).
Following the event in USM, a mini forum will be also held in Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Kedah and the Han Chiang University College of Communication in Pulau Pinang in June this year.
