SHAH ALAM, March 20 – The Memorandum of Understanding signed by Pakatan Harapan with the government, to focus on economic and social recovery following the Covid-19 pandemic, will no longer be operative if another reason for the MoU, the promise to pass the Anti-Hopping Law, is not honoured, said Democratic Action Party (DAP) Secretary General Lim Guan Eng today.
Speaking at a press conference during the party’s 17th Congress held here today, Guan Eng, however said the issue would require some clarification before the Opposition takes any decision as there have been contradictory statements from Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Parliament) Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on the matter.
On Friday Wan Junaidi said the Cabinet had decided that the bill on the proposed law would need further discussion to ensure that it can get sufficient support in the Dewan Rakyat.
He had also said a first reading will happen on a bill on Monday requiring a change in constitutional amendment. Guan Eng said the only law for tabling requiring such change was the anti-hopping law for now.
Guan Eng said that even if there is an extension by few days in the Parliament session, it would be acceptable but not passing the law will bring an end to the MoU with the government.
