KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 (Bernama) — Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has said that he will seek immediate clarification from MIC President Tan Sri S. A. Vigneswaran regarding the possibility of the party joining Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, said the discussion with Vigneswaran would be held soon.
“I will ask him (Tan Sri S. A. Vigneswaran) myself later,” he told reporters briefly when met after officiating the launching of the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Encyclopedia and the appointment of translators and editors at DBP here today.
The media had previously reported that Vigneswaran expressed MIC’s openness to cooperate with or join PN, but clarified that it was still at an early stage and had not been finalised.
He was also quoted as saying that MIC’s relationship with PAS and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) was not as hostile as the old rivalry between UMNO and DAP.
“MIC has worked with the leadership of PAS and Bersatu before without any problems,” he said.
On Sept 12, PAS Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man claimed that several parties had expressed interest in joining PN but declined to name them when asked if they included BN components.
