Malaysia Urges Suspension Of Israel’s UN Membership – Mohamad

SEREMBAN, Aug 28 (Bernama) — Malaysia reiterates its call for the international community to suspend Israel’s membership in the United Nations (UN) and to impose comprehensive sanctions on the Zionist regime.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said Malaysia had previously raised the matter at last year’s UN General Assembly and that he will reiterate the call at the upcoming session.

“It is time for Israel’s membership in the UN to be suspended and for all countries to impose sanctions,” said Mohamad. “I raised this at last year’s UN General Assembly and will repeat the call to suspend or expel Israel from the international community.”

“Such sanctions mean restricting arms used to kill Palestinians, and these should be imposed on Israel,” he told reporters after the Rembau MP’s contribution programme at Dewan Orang Ramai Rantau on Thursday.

He said previous international documents had clearly stated that Israel should be prevented from pursuing its intention to occupy and destroy Gaza.

“This is a form of modern-day colonialism perpetrated by Israel, and the international community must no longer turn a blind eye to the actions of the Zionist regime,” he added.

Earlier, an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in response to Israel’s ongoing military operations in Gaza. The meeting aimed to coordinate the positions and actions of member states in addressing the escalating crisis.

The organisation, which represents 57 Muslim-majority countries, has traditionally positioned itself as a defender of Palestinian rights and of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
