Malaysia-Singapore land travel to resume April 1st

PUTRAJAYA, March 24 – Malaysia and Singapore will reopen their land borders this April 1st, to enable land travel between the two countries without any quarantine or Covid-19 tests before and after travel for the fully vaccinated travellers.

In a joint statement issued here today, Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong expressed their satisfaction with their countries’ handling of the pandemic vaccination and the achievement made in their respective vaccination programmes.

Both leaders also noted the progress made in their cross border travels through the Vaccinated Travel Lanes (land and air).

Effective April 1st, those fully vaccinated need not go through any quarantine or tests for Covid-19 for land travel between the two countries. This will apply to all categories of travellers and land transportation.

Ismail Sabri said as Malaysia opens its border to international travellers effective April 1, the cross border travel to Singapore was a significant development.

“It reflects the cordial relations, cooperation in various aspectes and strong links between the people of the two countries.”

Ismail Sabri was also confident that the opening of the borders will have a positive impact on the economies and people of both countries.

Lee Hsien Loong said the development was reflective of the strong links enjoyed by both the countries throughout the pandemic and marked an important transition to living with Covid-19.
