KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had not acted against anyone in the RM9 billion littoral combat ships (LSC) scandal although it was in possession of the forensic audit report on the LSC project for more than two years, which contained a myriad of possible corruption charges.
In a statement today, Member of Parliament for Iskandar Puteri Lim Kit Siang said MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki should resign if he is unable to explain why the MACC had not acted against anyone in the RM9 billion LCS procurement project.
“Why after more than two years in possession of the LSC scandal forensic audit report, the MACC failed to prosecute anyone for the largest naval procurement scandal in Malaysian history?
“Azam Baki cannot deny that the MACC had been in possession for over two years the forensic audit report into the LCS scandal carried out by Alliance IFA (M) Sdn Bhd at the behest of Boustead Heavy Industries Corp Bhd (BHIC) and which contained a myriad of possible corruption charges.”
Kit Siang said no answers have been forthcoming also on why the three corruption charges against former Boustead Heavy Industries Corp Bhd managing director Tan Sri Ahmad Ramli Mohd Nor had nothing to do with the LCS scandal, as they predate the issue of the LOA (Letter of Award) for the RM9 billion LCS procurement which were issued on 16th December 2011.
He said the forensic audit report on the LSC project from 2011 to 2014 implicated questionable transactions and “painted a scenario that only a very big “shark” could have orchestrated such a mega scandal.
This should give all the more reason why a Royal Commission of Inquiry on the LCS project must be established, he added.
