Kit Siang: Is Muhyiddin prepared to lead a campaign to urge Malaysians to see themselves as Malaysians first?

KUALA LUMPUR, May: DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang today posed two questions to former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The first question was “When he (Muhyiddin) was converted from “Malay first, Malaysian second” to “Malaysian first, Malay second”.

The second question, issued through a statement today, was if the former prime minister was prepared to lead a campaign to urge all Malaysians to see themselves as nationality first, ethnicity second.

Kit Siang’s questions come in the wake of Muhyiddin Yassin’s statement on Sunday that “I am a Malay Malaysian. But my thinking has never been to see myself as only Malay. I have to consider the Chinese, Indians and others, because I am a leader of Malaysia.

“I used to say I was Malay first. That is no longer important. I am a Malay who cares for all Malaysians.”
