(Updated) King set to meet Anwar, Muhyiddin as no MP has garnered majority votes for PM post

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 – Malaysia’s King, Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah is set to meet both Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Datuk Seri Muhyiddin Yassin at 4.30 today, a media statement issued by Istana Negara said today.

According to the statement, Istana Negara today had received the submissions by political parties who had won the most number of seats in the 15th General Election on their proposed formation of coalitions to form the new government. They had also submitted their choice of the 10th Prime Minister of the country.

With the submissions, the King had gone through the process of verifying the Prime Minister candidate who has received the majority of confidence votes from the Members of Parliament, the statement said.

This was to enable the King to make a decision on choosing the Member of Parliament who is most apt to get the vote of confidence from the majority of MPs as stated under the Federal Constitution.

However, based on the submissions, no member of the parliament has received the majority votes for election as a prime minister candidate, the statement said.

Against this, an audience with the King has been granted to both the leaders of Pakatan Harapan and PN, this afternoon at 4.30 pm.

Meanwhile, the grounds of Istana Negara has been packed with media members, both locals and foreigners, reporting on the development of Malaysia’s politics following the conclusion of its 15th General election with a hung parliament and without a prime minister yet.

The King and party leaders have all called for the people to stay calm and patient till a prime minister is decided upon and the new government is formed.
