Khairy’s election as VP for 75th World Health Assembly great honour – Health DG

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 – Malaysia’s Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has been unanimously elected as the Vice President of the upcoming Seventy-fifth World Health Assembly which will take place from 22-28 May 2022 in Geneva, tweeted Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah today.

Dr Noor said it was a great honour for Malaysia to be accorded with the Vice Presidency of WHA and “we will take this opportunity to pursue a bigger role in the global health. Coincidentally Malaysia is also serving in the executive board of World Health Organisation from 2021 to 2024.”

Khairy is currently leading the Malaysian delegation at the 72nd World Health Organization Regional Committee for the Western Pacific meeting (Oct 25-29) in Himeji, Japan.

Health ministers and senior officials from countries and areas across the World Health Organization (WHO) Western Pacific Region are gathered in Himeji to discuss and take actions to address the COVID-19 and other key health issues.

The seventy-second session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Western Pacific is being held as a “hybrid” meetingwith over 50 senior country representatives, including some ministers of health, and WHO staff participating in Himeji and more than 220 others joining the meeting virtually.
