PETALING JAYA, June 13 – The National Registration Department (NRD) has identified three ways a MyKad (identification card) could be falsified, with one being with the help of a staff from the department itself, Sinar Harian reported on Saturday.
Quoting the Director General of NRD, Datuk Ruslin Jusoh, the online Malay news website said the department had identified the insider involvement as one of the three ways syndicates operate to produce fake MyKad document. In this case, the NRD staff supplies original identification card to the syndicate.
Describing this as an abuse of power, corruption and breaking the integrity code, Ruslin Jusoh said another modus operandi used by the syndicates are to falsify an identity card by printing the surface of the card with false information.
This is usually used for the purpose of having an identification document and for job applications and to ensure that the foreigner can continue to live in the country without a permit.
Another way is to use the identification card of another individual to enjoy the benefits and privileges accorded to a citizen including education, medical benefits and jobs.
He also said from the investigation carried out by the NRD, it was found that the syndicates were led by foreigners who sold fake MyKad for RM100 to RM2,000 per card.
According to Sinar Harian, 200 people including 10 locals were charged in court for alleged involvement in the falsifying of identification cards from 2019 till April.
For the first four months of this year, 33 individuals were charged including eight locals.
