KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 – Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan was defeated in a no-confidence vote resolution taken against him in the country’s National Assembly early today, where opposition parties gained a majority with a total of 174 votes to remove him as the premier.

Pakistan’s National Assembly has 341 seats.

According to the Associated Press of Pakistan, the removal of Imran as premier was a record in the parliamentary history of the country for in-house change through a democratic and constitutional manner.

It is the first-ever succeeding no-confidence motion in parliamentary history of Pakistan through which a sitting prime minister has been removed as in the past two such moves had failed.

The no-confidence resolution was presented by Leader of the Opposition Shehbaz Sharif on March 28.

Imran became the prime minister after the ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf formed the government in alliance with several parties and an independent candidate after securing majority seats in the general election-2018.
