Housing and Local Gov’t Ministry Hails Rescue Efforts of Volunteer Fire Brigades and United Sikhs in Hat Yai

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 27: The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has thanked 45 members of 13 Volunteer Fire Brigades (PBS) for their work in flood relief operations in Hat Yai, Thailand, since Nov 21.

KPKT also acknowledged the support from the non-governmental organisation, United Sikh Seri Muda, which provided logistical aid, including a mobile medical unit and food supplies, to support the operation on the ground.

In a statement today, KPKT highlighted that the involvement of PBS teams from Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, and Johor in the cross-border mission reflects the volunteer spirit and bravery of the PBS members in assisting Malaysians stranded due to flooding in the region.

“The spirit of solidarity, regardless of state, background, or distance, is deeply valued,” the statement read.

The statement further noted that the use of operational assets, such as rescue boats, four-wheel-drive vehicles, logistics trucks, and coordination through the operational bases in Sadao and Hatyai, enabled the mission to be carried out in a structured, efficient, and professional manner.

KPKT also confirmed that Malaysians who were stranded are being evacuated in stages, with the majority expected to return home starting tomorrow.

The ministry commended the courage and dedication of all PBS members involved, recognising them as vital strategic partners in enhancing community preparedness and expanding disaster support networks both locally and internationally.

“KPKT extends heartfelt thanks for the contributions, sacrifices, and commitment of all those involved, ensuring the mission was conducted safely and effectively,” KPKT said.
