Hannah Yeoh Is Now Minister in PM’s Dept (Federal Territories)

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16: Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh has been appointed as the new Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) following the Cabinet reshuffle of the MADANI Government announced today by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The 46-year-old, who previously held the Youth and Sports Minister portfolio, made history as the Speaker of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly from 2013 to 2018, becoming the first woman and the youngest person ever appointed to the role.

The Youth and Sports Minister portfolio will now be led by Sungai Petani MP Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari.

With extensive administrative experience, Hannah was previously the Deputy Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development in 2018 before taking on the role of Youth and Sports Minister in 2022.

She is also the DAP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) deputy secretary-general for the 2025–2028 term. Hannah, who is a mother of two, began her political career after joining DAP in 2006 and is a former lawyer.

Hannah served as the Subang Jaya assemblyman for two terms, starting in 2008, before moving to the parliamentary level in 2018 after winning the Segambut seat.

She received her early education at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Subang Jaya, Sekolah Kebangsaan SS19 Subang Jaya, and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Subang Utama. She then pursued a law degree at the University of Tasmania, Australia, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws in 2001.

Throughout her tenure as Youth and Sports Minister, Hannah focused on issues of sexual harassment and athlete safety, emphasising the need for transparent investigations, victim protection, the implementation of codes of conduct, and complaint mechanisms within sports associations.

During her service as Deputy Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development, she was known as one of the leaders who spoke out strongly on the issue of underage marriage while also advocating for legislation concerning sexual harassment.

She has also frequently voiced her views on the rights of stateless children and proposed the establishment of a special agency or ministry to focus on children’s issues.

In the 15th General Election on Nov 19, 2022, Hannah successfully defended the Segambut parliamentary seat for a second consecutive term, defeating two challengers from Perikatan Nasional and Barisan Nasional with a majority of 59,684 votes.
