KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 – Global Peace Ambassador and New York Times Best selling author Prem Rawat is in Malaysia currently where he has been invited to speak at several several events including an author’s event this October 19 to talk about his book “Hear Yourself: How to Find Peace in a Noisy World”.

Founder of the humanitarian organisation, The Prem Rawat Foundation (TPRF), Prem also signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Scouts Association Malaysia to offer the Peace Education Program to youth throughout the country.

Peace is cool and it is not boring but dynamic, says Global Peace Ambassador Prem Rawat in an interview with Weekly Echo’s Associate Editor, Melissa Duis. Video courtesy of TimelessToday.

In between his busy schedule, he also gave an interview to Associate Editor of Weekly Echo, Melissa Duis. The following are some excerpts from the interview:

Q: How was the lockdown; it’s been two, three years for some people. Did that force you
to change anything?

Prem Rawat:
Yeah, it actually forced me to change a lot of things. When it first started, I didn’t really know what to think of it. But then I realized that there were a lot of people who needed a lot of encouragement; this was new to them and they really didn’t know how to face off into this situation.

And being all locked up, being alone was not as easy as one would have thought. So, I started
making some videos, and I basically became a YouTuber too. Started putting out videos. And that really helped a lot of people.

Q: With all that quietness, do you think you had to readapt the concept of peace?

Prem Rawat:
No. That has nothing to do with peace. You know, even though maybe outside
in the world, there weren’t traffic jams anymore, and the world became a quiet place—but being in a quiet place is not peace.

Peace is about what you feel inside of you. Because you could be in the most wonderful,
wonderful place up in the mountains; there is no traffic; there is no nothing. But up here (pointing to the head), there is too much traffic. And that, you know, it’s just going on and on and on and on.
And unless there is peace that you feel—which, that is the peace that is within you—then, trying
to artificially create peace will never work.

You know, it’s like you are hungry. Hunger comes from within you, and that feeling of being
satisfied also is going to come from within you. But you need to eat food. You cannot eat pretend food. You cannot surround yourself with pictures of food. You cannot go and sit, stand next to a restaurant and smell the aromas; that’s not going to satisfy you. That’s not the case. You really have to feel it inside
of you.

The author of New York Times best seller “Hear Yourself” – Prem Rawat (left) is set to speak at an event this Oct 19th at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC).

Q: The Knowledge – that is what you call your practice of peace. In their quest for peace, people have done a lot of things—meditation, live in solitude. How is the Knowledge different from the rest?

Prem Rawat: Because this Knowledge is not knowledge of some thing. It is the Knowledge of the self. It’s
knowing your self. This is what Socrates had said, “Know thyself.” This is making that come true.

This is not in terms of personality. This is not in terms of “like and dislike.” This is not saying,
“Oh, yeah, I love the colour purple. But I hate the colour green.” I mean, this is not knowing
yourself. That’s not what it’s about. It’s knowing who you are. That divinity that is in you, as it is in this entire universe, you are part of it. And this is what I mean by “knowing yourself.” So, it is really the Knowledge of the self.

Q: Some people might view peace as something really boring and very dull…. Not being in touch with their humanity. What are your thoughts on that?

Prem Rawat: One thing that is obvious—peace is not boring. Peace is dynamic. Because it is all of a sudden, putting you in touch with this most amazing part of you that is dynamic, that is not boring, that is
not static. You, because you are ever-changing!
