KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17: From her passion for photography while in her teens to virtual production, Zubaida Nila is among a small number of women making their way in the world of this relatively new film making technology.

While it was new few years back, it is catching on and many women, particularly those from the gaming industry, are finding it a natural move to enter and learn the technologies of the virtual film making industry, says Zubaida during an interview with Weekly Echo.

There have been a lot of encouragement, including from organisations like Women In Virtual Production (WiVP), she said. The WiVP is a global initiative that helps create a supportive community, fostering professional development, and advocating for greater representation of women in the virtual production sector.

How did she go from photography into virtual production?

The virtual film making technology used in the movie “Avatar” was one inspiration, she says, which led her to begin her research study in a university in Malaysia.

From then, it has been a learning experience and practical application of the various technologies in the virtual production industry, while keeping a full time job as a technical artist in a game studio.
