KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 (Bernama) — Four Malaysian films have secured nominations across several categories at the ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) 2025, which runs from Nov 12 to 15.
AIFFA director Livan Tajang said in a statement today that the selected Malaysian titles — Abang Adik, Babah, Reversi and Simple Manusan — reflect positive growth for the country’s film industry on the regional stage.
“This year, we opened participation to all ASEAN countries. We received 200 entries — a new record, as we’ve never reached that number before,” she said.
Abang Adik emerged as a festival standout, earning nominations for Best Screenplay, Best Actor (Wu Kang-Ren), Best Director (Jin Ong) and Best Film.
Babah was shortlisted for Best Editing, Best Supporting Actress (Sweet Qismina) and Best Actor (Qi Razali).
Meanwhile, Reversi received a nomination for Best Editing, while Simple Manusan scored a Best Supporting Actor nomination through Mogan Chandra Dass.
These nominations position Malaysia as one of the leading contenders at AIFFA 2025, underscoring the creativity and rising technical quality of Malaysian filmmaking recognised across the ASEAN region.
AIFFA 2025 chief jury U-Wei Saari praised the storytelling and technical finesse of ASEAN films, calling them an impressive blend that reflects the region’s rich cultural diversity, history and socio-economic backgrounds.
The official results and winners will be announced tomorrow (Nov 15) at the AIFFA Gala Night, held at the Colosseum Ballroom, Pullman Hotel, Kuching, Sarawak.
Nominations span nine categories and include films from countries such as the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia and Brunei.
