KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 – Leading fashion designers, Zang Toi and Datuk Tom Abang Saufi, as well as well-known singers, Anuar Zain and Ning Bizura are among the personalities who will join forces in a charity gala called The Cloth Concert organised by RTM Veterans Association (PVRTM) at IOI Grand Exhibition & Convention Centre, Putrajaya this October 22.

RTM Veterans Association (PVRTM) President Zohara Gany Mhd. Bathusha

PVRTM’s President, Zohara Gany Mhd. Bathusha said the concert under the royal patronage of Tengku Permaisuri Selangor will also see a few other veteran and new fashion designers walking the runway as well as established and up-and-coming singers on the stage.

“Other designers who have confirmed participation are Salikin Sidek, Calvin Thoo, Rizman Ruzaini,  Carven Ong, Yans Creation, Huda Hassan, Nina B Nina, J. Khan and Wan Bynun. Joining Anuar Zain and Ning Baizura on the stage will be Azlina Aziz, Datin Alyah, Stacy, Noryn Aziz, Mimifly and saxophonist JARI.  They will be accompanied by RTM’s Orchestra led by Datuk Mokhzani Ismail,” she said in a statement.

On the show’s concept, Zohara said it is called The Cloth Concert  and not The Fashion Concert because fashion originates from a piece of cloth.

“We want to highlight traditional local fabrics or textiles such as songket, batik, weaving and pua kumbu.  Any piece of clothing  for that matter starts from a piece of fabric that comes from cotton.  Cotton is grown, made into yarn, woven into cloth and then made into clothes, and we shall embody all these in The Cloth Concert,” she said.

Zohara also hoped the concert, organised in collaboration with Radio Television Malaysia and the Malaysian Bumiputera Designers Association would create awareness among the public on the uniqueness of local textiles as well as revive the glory of traditional textiles as a national treasure.

“We want to see more local fashion designers in the global market.  We appreciate creative ideas from various fields and this event brings together fashion designers and leading stars of our entertainment industry,” she said.

Commenting further, Zohara said she was confident that this concert would succeed in achieving the target of raising enough funds for the benefit of RTM’s retirees and former contractual staff without pensions.

She said The Cloth Concert is PVRTM’s second large-scale stage performance.

“Three years ago we organised a Royal Charity Concert called ‘Malam Bulan  Dipagar Bintang’ in conjunction with the 74th birthday of the Sultan of Selangor at Istana Budaya,” said Zohara.

PVRTM formed in 1996 now has more than 1,200 members from all fields including production, technical and support services.
