KUALA LUMPUR, July 22: Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo today commended the Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) for integrating and adopting Artificial Intelligence technologies in its KL Command and Control Centre (KLCCC), saying it will further push up the city’s modernisation and sustainable management of its infrastructures and services.

During a visit today to the command centre, as part of his ministry’s initiatives to promote digital technologies including AI and 5G nationwide, Gobind observed the implementation of data-driven and AI-enabled smart city solutions at the centre.

He also reviewed some of the AI-driven use cases integrated into the city hall’s existing systems to enhance service delivery, public safety and urban management across the city.

He also noted DBKL’s transformation towards AI-powered traffic management system. At a press conference later, he stated how such a system would become important, and among others, in also sourcing data, visuals and analytics when managing post traffic incidents.

The solution adopted by DBKL leverages on real-time camera feeds and intelligent analytics to monitor traffic conditions, detect incidents such as accidents or illegal parking and dynamically adjust traffic-signals to improve flow at critical intersections.

Meanwhile, in a press statement issued at the event, Kuala Lumpur City Mayor, Dato Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif said while technology contributes to greater efficiency, AI and digital solutions should be people-focused and serve to make the city an inclusive city for all.
