Courier Market Projected To Reach RM6.9 Bln This Year – Fahmi

SHAH ALAM, Oct 22 (Bernama) — Malaysia’s courier market is projected to reach between RM6.8 billion and RM6.9 billion this year, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

He attributed this growth, in part, to a surge in demand from the e-commerce sector, as evidenced by the opening of facilities like the SPX Express (SPX) Sorting Centre.

“Information from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) clearly shows a sharp increase in parcel volume over the last two to three years.

“This proves that the government’s efforts to strengthen the e-commerce ecosystem, along with digital infrastructure and internet speeds reaching 5G and now 5G Advanced, are having a tangible impact,” he said in his speech at the launch of the SPX Express Bukit Raja Selatan (BRS) Sorting Centre today.

Fahmi also noted that the new BRS Sorting Centre has created over 1,000 job opportunities in fields such as engineering, digital and artificial intelligence (AI) development.

“Beyond the sorting jobs, the team also needs engineers to ensure all hardware and equipment functions well,” he said.

Furthermore, Fahmi expressed hope that SPX Express would establish a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme to enhance the skills of its workforce.

“Technological changes present an opportunity to upgrade our skills. I hope SPX Express will create a TVET programme to facilitate more upskilling among your staff,” he said.

He also suggested that the courier industry forge closer partnerships with higher education institutions, particularly in engineering fields relevant to industrial needs.

The over 30,000-square-metre BRS Sorting Centre is part of the company’s RM63.2 million (USD15 million) investment in an advanced Automated Sorting Machine designed to boost operational efficiency.
