Cops Nab Man Posing as a Traffic Cop in Ipoh

IPOH, Nov 2: Police have arrested a man suspected of impersonating a police officer in an incident in front of a restaurant in Taman Ipoh Timur Baru, Bercham, early Saturday morning.

Ipoh police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the incident, which went viral on social media, depicted the suspect, in his 20s, posing as a traffic police officer and stopping a motorcyclist.

“Investigation found that the suspect had stopped the victim for allegedly modifying his motorcycle, before asking for RM300 in cash as a bribe to avoid being issued a summons.

“The victim, who became suspicious, contacted his friend who then notified the police. The suspect was arrested along with several items used for the impersonation,” he said in a statement today.

The suspect has been remanded for four days to assist in investigations under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a public servant.
