Cancel rally in Kepala Batas – IGP advises

KUALA LUMPUR,  Aug 14 (Bernama) — The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has advised that the rally scheduled in Bertam, Kepala Batas, Penang today be cancelled to prevent potential clashes between opposing groups and to safeguard the local community..

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said PDRM takes seriously any matter that could affect public safety and well-being.

“In this regard, PDRM has taken note of the rally planned for Aug 14, 2025, in Bertam, Kepala Batas,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Khalid said PDRM had conducted an investigation into the recent viral incident involving the Jalur Gemilang being hoisted upside down. A total of 38 reports were lodged nationwide, involving 17 in Penang and 21 in other states.

“The investigation also covers action against individuals who recorded and disseminated the recording of the video under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said, adding that the investigation papers were submitted to the Penang Public Prosecutor’s Office last Monday and are now under review.

He stressed that PDRM remains committed to conducting investigations transparently, with integrity, and in line with the law to maintain peace and harmony.

“The public is urged to avoid speculation that could disrupt the investigation process and instead provide the police with accurate and verified information,” he said.
