Anwar: Visit to Saudi Arabia very positive, with more growth seen in bilateral links

KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who has returned to Malaysia following a three-day official visit to Saudi Arabia, said his visit has been very positive with indications of more growth seen in the Malaysia-Saudi Arabia economic and social ties.

The prime minister, who was accompanied by his wife, Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, as well as senior officials, had also performed his umrah pilgrimage in Mecca prior to starting his official visit.

During the trip, which coincided with the auspicious month of Ramadan, Anwar and Dr. Wan Azizah and members of the Malaysian delegation were also given the honour by the government of Saudi Arabia to visit Raudhah and the Tomb of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.

Anwar and Dr Wan Azizah were also in Madinah al Munawwarah to break fast with Malaysian students studying in Madinah and went on to perform prayers at the Prophet’s Mosque.

Anwar also met up with business leaders during his trip where among others, he called upon for investments into Malaysia.

In his Facebook posting late Saturday, Anwar said the government of Saudi Arabia had requested him to extend his visit in order to meet more leaders but said he had to decline the extension due to his tight schedule to return home to Malaysia.

The prime minister expressed hope to return to Saudi Arabia to continue enhancing the strong relations established with the country.
