Anwar approves RM10 mln immediate aid for Sabah flood victims

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has approved an immediate allocation of RM10 million through the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) to assist flood victims in Sabah.

He said the amount is in addition to the RM11 million already channelled through the state government for urgent repairs of basic facilities in the affected areas.

“I’m deeply saddened by the impact of the floods in Sabah. I have ordered the entire MADANI Government machinery to be mobilised immediately to ensure assistance reaches the people without disruption.

“Our priority is to safeguard the safety, welfare and livelihood of flood victims,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Anwar also called on all quarters to unite, join forces and uphold the spirit of compassion in helping those affected.

“Let us show solidarity, concern and shared responsibility in facing this calamity,” he added.

As of 8 am today, 415 flood victims from 113 families were housed at two temporary relief centres and one permanent relief centre in Sabah.
