All Programmes By MITRA Scrutinised By PMO For Transparency – Ramanan

Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Datuk Seri R. Ramanan

KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Bernama) — The approval for every programme under the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA) goes through a coordination and scrutiny process by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to ensure transparency, said Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.

Ramanan, who is also responsible for looking after the affairs of the Indian community, said every application also goes through a screening process by the Prime Minister’s Department’s monitoring, finance and integrity divisions.

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim himself directly monitors all planning and developments to ensure a transparent delivery system to guarantee the hopes of the Indian community, especially the B40 group,” he said in a statement today.

Ramanan said every decision approved by the PMO is the result of a careful coordination process, based on facts and input from various ministries and agencies, including MITRA.

“The Prime Minister wants to ensure that the government funds allocated to help the Indian community are channelled for programmes that can improve the living standards of the Indian community and does not want any overlap with other government agencies,” he said.

He emphasised that the PMO acts as a national policy coordinator and does not take over the role of any agency, but rather ensures that all initiatives run in line with government policies and have a high impact on the people.

Meanwhile, Ramanan said MITRA also plays an important role in formulating initiatives for the Indian community in collaboration with multiple agencies such as the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development (KUSKOP), the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM), the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE), the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) and others.
