Akbar Moidunny re-elected as MAICSA President for 2025-26

KUALA LUMPUR, July 12: Datuk Akbar Moidunny, with more than 38 years of leadership experience in corporate advisory, restructuring, and governance consultancy across local and international markets, was recently re-elected as President of MAICSA or the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators for the 2025–2026 term.

This followed a council meeting held in conjunction with MAICSA’s 65th annual general meeting on June 21.

The return of Akbar, Group Chairman and CEO of the MINC Group, to MAICSA’s helm has reinforced the organisation’s focus on strategic relevance, professional excellence, and national service, MAICSA said.

“MAICSA must evolve beyond being a professional body. It must be the recognised voice of authority in corporate governance, boardroom ethics, and company secretarial leadership. Our role is not only regulatory, but also developmental – in building ethical leaders, enhancing institutional resilience, and steering corporations towards long-term, sustainable growth,” said Akbar.

Under his stewardship, MAICSA is set to pursue an ambitious agenda anchored on three strategic pillars in establishing MAICSA as a National Governance Authority, empowering future governance leaders and building strategic alliances.

Akbar said MAICSA aspired to be the preeminent thought leader and go-to institution on governance, compliance, and corporate leadership – not just in Malaysia, but across the region.

MAICSA, he said, will also will intensify efforts to attract and develop the next generation of Chartered Secretaries and Governance Professionals through targeted outreach, student engagement, mentorship, and dynamic, future-ready CPD initiatives.

“We are not here to maintain the status quo. We are here to shape the future of governance in Malaysia,” said Akbar. “Together, we will drive MAICSA to greater visibility, influence, and impact – where governance is seen not merely as a function, but as a cornerstone of national advancement.”

As MAICSA charts a progressive course for the term ahead, the institute has called on members, aspiring professionals, academic institutions, regulators, and corporate leaders to join in this transformative journey — to collectively uplift the profession, strengthen ethical business conduct, and position Malaysia as a regional model for governance excellence.

The institute will also deepen collaboration with key regulators, government-linked entities (GLCs), enforcement bodies, SMEs, and industry stakeholders to promote good governance, enhance professional recognition, and elevate member value.

The MAICSA Council also confirmed the re-election of other office bearers for the new term: Deputy President – Dipak Kaur;  Vice President – Dr Nandita Choudhury; Honorary Secretary – Assoc. Prof. Noorbijan  Abu Bakar; Honorary Treasurer – Lee Mi Ryoung; Immediate Past President – Simon Yeoh;

MAICSA Chief Executive Officer Justin J Anthony said the continuity of the leadership reflected the Council’s confidence in the current strategic direction and reaffirmed MAICSA’s commitment to elevating governance standards and supporting Chartered Secretaries and Governance Professionals in navigating a complex and evolving corporate environment.

MAICSA was established in 1959 and affiliated with The Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) in the United Kingdom. It stands as Malaysia’s foremost authority on corporate governance and has over 4,200 members and graduates, and more than 2,000 students.
