KUANTAN, Sept 11 (Bernama) — A 58-year-old German tourist died after falling into a hole while hiking at Jungle Trail 10 in Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands today.
A Pahang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) spokesperson said the man was pronounced dead after he was found unconscious at the scene.
He said the department received an emergency call about the incident at 12.04 pm, following which a team of 16 personnel from the Cameron Highlands Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was dispatched to the location.
“The team arrived at the foothill at 12.35 pm and reached the scene about 45 minutes later, after hiking for about seven kilometres. The victim had fallen into a hole believed to be a former waterway,” he said in a statement today.
He said the victim was hiking with his 57-year-old partner at the time of the incident, and she was reported to be safe.
He said the operation team carried the victim down to the foot of the hill using a Sked stretcher, and his body was handed over to the Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel for further action.
