PUTRAJAYA, Aug 31: The AI Untuk Rakyat programme took off here today to give Malaysian youths aged 18 to 30 free access to selected artificial intelligence (AI) tools through the new Rakyat Digital portal.
The programmem targeted at 100,000 Malaysian youths, will be rolled out in phases until 2027.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Sunday announced the programme as one of six initiatives for the people aimed at opening up more digital opportunities for Malaysian youths during the 2026 National Day Prime Minister’s Address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
Rakyat Digital is the national digital learning portal, an initiative of the Ministry of Digital led by MyDIGITAL Corporation. The initiative is part of the Government’s efforts to expand access to artificial intelligence (AI) technology, while building youths’ knowledge, skills and confidence in using AI responsibly.
Ministry of Digital secretary-general Datuk Fabian Bigar said AI Untuk Rakyat was an important step in ensuring youths not only understood AI technology but also had access to AI tools that could be used for learning, creativity and improving productivity.
“Through this initiative, we want to ensure that the benefits of AI can be felt more widely and inclusively, in line with the Government’s aspiration to build a society that is digitally literate and ready to face the digital future,” he said in a statement.
The programme is offered free to Malaysian citizens aged 18 to 30 through the Rakyat Digital portal, subject to completion of the prescribed modules.
Participants who successfully complete and pass all the required modules will receive three months of free subscriptions to selected AI applications and software.
The six modules are AI Nation 2030: Pendekatan MADANI, CYBERSAFE untuk Rakyat, AI Generatif, Keselamatan AI, Agentik AI untuk Semua and Cloud untuk Rakyat.
As a start, eligible participants will receive special access to AI tools from local and international technology providers, namely IlmuChat by YTL AI Labs, Wonderclip and MuleRun by Alibaba, and Gemini Enterprise by Google.
More AI software and tools from other technology companies will be added progressively to further enrich the learning experience.
Registration is available through the Rakyat Digital portal at rakyatdigital.gov.my.
