Police Investigate Claims Linking Rosmah to Luxury Property in the US

KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 (Bernama) — Police have received three reports and opened an investigation into allegations linking Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor to the purchase or financing of a luxury property worth US$13 million in New Jersey, United States.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said several witnesses would be called to assist in investigations into a viral video containing the allegations.

“We will investigate whether the social media account behind the viral content is genuine or otherwise. So far, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been cooperating well and we have yet to receive any further developments,” he told reporters after the launch of the ‘Perangi Scam: Dua Pasukan, Satu Matlamat’ programme here today.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.

It was reported yesterday that Rosmah, the wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, had lodged a police report to enable authorities to investigate the allegations.

Rosmah has denied claims linking her to the use of shell companies, offshore financial structures or any individuals and entities named in the viral videos, describing them as baseless and malicious fabrications.

Meanwhile, Mohd Khalid said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) was ready to deploy personnel to ensure the smooth conduct and security of the upcoming Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.

He said Johor was expected to require between 4,000 and 5,000 police personnel due to its size and the number of state constituencies being contested.

“PDRM is also prepared to mobilise officers and personnel from across the country to support security operations during the Negeri Sembilan state election, subject to operational requirements in the state,” he said.

The Election Commission announced on Friday that nomination day for the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections would be held on June 27 and July 18 respectively, while polling is scheduled for July 11 in Johor and Aug 1 in Negeri Sembilan.

In a separate development, Mohd Khalid welcomed Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) move to install 10,000 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras across the capital.

He said CCTV and modern surveillance technology would enhance the police force’s enforcement and investigative capabilities, particularly in addressing manpower constraints.

Media reports previously stated that RM500 million had been spent on the installation and operation of 10,000 integrated CCTV cameras throughout Kuala Lumpur since 2020.
