VIENNA, June 3 (Bernama-dpa) — The body of a woman has been discovered walled up in a house in Austria, German Press Agency (dpa) reported.
Police found the body in a house in Münchendorf, south of Vienna, official sources confirmed to dpa on Wednesday.
The newspapers Heute and Kronen Zeitung reported that the dead woman was elderly.
The case is under investigation and a post-mortem has been ordered, a spokeswoman for the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office told dpa. She did not disclose any further details.
Investigators gained access to the house last week with the help of the fire brigade, according to official sources. The woman had not lived in Münchendorf permanently, but had a second home there.
The rural community, with around 3,000 inhabitants, is located on the outskirts of the Austrian capital.
The public prosecutor’s office declined to comment on media reports suggesting the woman may have been dead for several years, nor did the spokeswoman comment on speculation that the body may have been hidden in order to continue receiving social security benefits for the woman.
