SHAH ALAM, April 27 (Bernama) — The Selangor Council of the Royal Court has demanded firm action against individuals who acted disrespectfully by circulating images insulting the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Its member Datuk Salehuddin Saidin said the act was a serious insult that not only targeted the Sultan’s personal dignity but also undermined the royal institution, a key pillar of the nation’s sovereignty.

“We see this as a grave insult not only to the Sultan personally, but also to the royal institution… it is a serious affront to the Malay Rulers, who have long been the cornerstone of the country’s stability and harmony,” he said.

Salehuddin, also chairman of the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS), said this after filing a police report at Shah Alam district police headquarters here today.

Also present to file the police report were four other members of the Selangor Council of the Royal Court, namely Tan Sri Mohd Zawawi Salleh, Datuk Haris Kasim, Datuk Mohd Tamyes Abd Wahid, and Datuk Mohammed Khusrin Munawi.

Salehuddin said the social media post appeared to stem from Sultan Sharafuddin’s order calling for pig farming to be halted in Selangor over environmental pollution, which some parties responded to by spreading slander through repulsive images.

“We urge the police and the MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) to take firm action, under the Penal Code, Sedition Act and Communications and Multimedia Act, against those responsible for the post and anyone who helped upload it.

“The issue is also seen as involving national policy, as the position and honour of the rulers are guaranteed under the Federal Constitution, the Selangor State Constitution 1959, and form an important principle in the Rukun Negara,” he said.

Yesterday, several Selangor executive councillors urged the police and MCMC to take firm action against those behind the social media post, calling it atrocious, uncivilised and utterly unacceptable in a nation founded on the Constitution and Rukun Negara.

On Saturday, a digitally edited image circulated widely on social media, showing an animal wearing formal court attire and state honours, apparently intended to spread insult.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said today that police are investigating the owner or administrator of the Facebook account “Huayan The Pureland Learning Centre” over the posting of an image insulting Sultan Sharafuddin.

He said police received 21 reports, adding that 21 witnesses, including individuals who lodged the reports, have been called for their statements to be recorded to assist in the investigation process.
