
KUALA LUMPUR, April 4: A young woman who fell onto the LRT track at the Abdullah Hukum Station this afternoon was rescued on time as her fall also activated the Platform Intrusion Emergency Stop (PIES) security system, bringing a train that was approaching the station to a stop.
In a late night posting on his Facebook, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, who came to know of the incident later, said he was grateful that the life of the victim was saved and for the fact that the safety systems in place were functioning properly in an emergency situation.
“I express my deepest appreciation and gratitude to the rescue members of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, the Civil Defense Forces and the Malaysian Government for their quick and professional actions in controlling this situation.”
He said the incident was a reminder to everyone to stay vigilant and obey the safety rules in public transport stations, and that safety was a joint responsibilty.
He also expressed his appreciation to other passengers who were patient when the incident took place and especially to those who provided cooperation to the rescue members to carry out their duties more smoothly.
Meanwhile, the woman, who appeared shaken and with some injuries, was seen being taken in an ambulance for treatment.
