KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18: Yayasan Salam Malaysia (SALAM), an NGO that has championed volunteerism and community development across the nation for the last 30 years, will organise an Explorace (Treasure Hunt) and a Forum on Mental Wellbeing & Cultural Intelligence here on Sunday, Feb 8.
The unity-themed event marks the first initiative of SALAM for 2026. It also coincides with the 123rd anniversary of YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al Haj’s birth — Malaysia’s first Prime Minister and beloved Father of Independence.
The event is also to mark his enduring legacy of goodwill, harmony, and inclusivity, which continues to inspire us, making this occasion profoundly symbolic.
More than a celebration, it is a living tribute to Tunku Abdul Rahman’s vision of a Malaysia built on harmony, inclusivity, and shared humanity.
SALAM has engaged the services of M.Govind Nair, who has been acknowledged in local treasure hunting circles for his cryptic and challenging questions, to be the Clerk of the Course.
To ensure that participants understand these noble principles, teams will intentionally comprise people of different ethnic backgrounds in both the students and adults categories.
The idea is to ensure a joyful, interactive experience where unity in diversity is lived, not just spoken. It is also an avenue for forming new friendships and rediscovering shared bonds.

Other than the Explorace, SALAM will also hold a forum on mental well-being, cultural empathy and cultural intelligence. The forum will feature distinguished speakers in Datuk Dr Andrew Mohanraj, President, Malaysian Mental Health Association and Dr Jamel Kaur Singh, an inter-ethnic relations strategist and author based in Melbourne
The forum will explore practical strategies to:
* Safeguard mental well-being for healthier, more productive communities.
• Foster cultural intelligence to strengthen cohesion among Malaysia’s diverse races.
• Promote greater awareness of national unity.
A vibrant gathering of 400 participants — students, professionals, parents, government officials, and corporate leaders — all united in spirit and purpose are expected to attend.
