KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 8 (Bernama) –The special screening of Jana Nayagan, starring popular South Indian actor-turned-politician Vijay, which was scheduled to take place in Malaysia tomorrow, has been postponed to a later date due to unforeseen circumstances, film distributor Malik Streams Corporation announced.
In an official statement, the company said the decision was made as several arrangements are still underway, and it is awaiting further updates from the film’s production team.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, the initial release of Jana Nayagan, scheduled for 9 January 2026, has been postponed to a later date,” the statement said.
Malik Streams, which organised the special screening in Malaysia, said a new release date would be announced once confirmed, assuring fans that all official updates would be communicated through authorised platforms.
The company which secured the Malaysian distribution rights for ‘Jana Nayagan’ also urged fans and supporters to remain patient and avoid engaging with unverified information, calling for calm and responsible communication amid speculation surrounding the postponement.
“In the meantime, we sincerely request all fans and supporters to remain patient and positive, and kindly refrain from spreading or engaging with unverified or misleading information from any unofficial sources,” it added.
According to Indian media reports, the delay comes amid a tense standoff over the film’s certification process. On Wednesday, the Madras High Court reportedly reserved its order on the film’s release and instructed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to form a fresh committee to review the film.
Despite the postponement, Jana Nayagan has already made headlines in Malaysia after recording a milestone achievement, with more than 200,000 pre-sales tickets sold within 24 hours, making it one of the fastest-selling film pre-releases in the country.
Vijay, 51, fondly known among his fans worldwide as ‘Thalapathy’ (Commander) was recently in Malaysia to promote the Jana Nayagan audio launch, which was held on Dec 27 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
The film is expected to be Vijay’s final acting project before he transitions fully into politics. He recently launched his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, and has been named its chief ministerial candidate for the 2026 Tamil Nadu State Assembly election.
Jana Nayagan is produced by KVN Productions and also stars actress Pooja Hegde and Bollywood star Bobby Deol.
