KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10: Sheila Majid, Malaysia’s Queen of Jazz, proved that she still has it. For nearly three hours, the 60-year-old singer captivated her fans at her solo ‘Sheila Majid 40 Years in Music’ concert here on Saturday.

It was described as “a night of promises fulfilled” and “an extraordinary, significant reunion between Malaysia’s legendary songstress and the thousands of devoted fans who have witnessed her four-decade journey as a singer”.

Her timeless voice and elegance rekindled cherished memories and proved that her charm remains undiminished through the years.

She mesmerised fans with a lineup of 25 songs, including ‘Antara Anyer dan Jakarta’, ‘Ku Mohon’, ‘Lagenda’, ‘Nada’, ‘Ratu’, ‘Kumohon’, ‘Moving On’ and ‘Persis Kekasihku’.

Her last large-scale concert was in 2023. This time, she returned with an even grander performance.

Looking radiant in her signature elegance, the 60-year-old singer kept her promise to deliver a spectacular show before an audience of 9,000.

Sheila opened the night with her iconic 37-year-old hit ‘Warna’, dressed in a striking red ensemble. The crowd erupted in excitement, singing along to the lyrics of the song.

“Tonight, I’m really happy to tell you we have a sold-out show. I never thought that I would be able to do something that I love for so long… It’s all thanks to you, my fans.

“Thank you so much for your love, your support, your encouragement, and your loyalty throughout these 40 years. You have always been there for me, and I really appreciate it. In fact, guys, this is our 40th anniversary together, you and me. Yeah, so this is our party,” said Sheila, greeted by thunderous applause from the crowd.

The night grew even more special when her daughter Kayda joined her on stage for ‘Boneka’, symbolically continuing the legacy of the ‘Sinaran’ singer. Sheila also delighted fans with her spontaneous humour, adding a light-hearted touch to the celebration.

“Before I go on, there are some people I would like to welcome and acknowledge… Tonight, I have my family here; they’re scattered all around the stadium. You know I’m from KL, right? So, every time I do a show in KL, half the stadium is my family.

“Anyway, I also have good friends who are here to support me, thank you so much. They have been supporting me for like 40 years… And now I see them here today, but they have more grey hair. Okay, don’t be mad,” she joked, drawing laughter from the crowd.

Throughout her performance, every note and lyric Sheila delivered brimmed with soul, guiding the audience through each chapter of her career, from timeless classics to contemporary works, without ever losing the authenticity of her original musical essence.

Sheila once again proved that her aura and artistry remain unshaken even at 60, reaffirming her status as one of Malaysia’s most loved musical icons.

It was also revealed via visuals on the big screen that Sheila will bring her anniversary concert to Singapore next year.
