KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13: There have been many challenges for the Indians in the country in various sectors, but they must remain united in order to forge ahead with progress.
Speaking at the Tamil Media Association’s Deepavali event recently, Dr. Sathiya Prakash Nadarajan, Coordinating Officer of the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat, said many things were successfully achieved by the Indians in the country whenever they had come together.
Citing disunity as a major challenge for the community, he also said the hard work of individuals and the ability to stand on their own two feet will also strengthen the development and progress of the community in whole.
Despite the help announced by the government, some of these help do not reach the people, and there have been anger, sometimes justifiably, he said. However, it is also important to recognise the weaknesses within the community itself so we can rectify and find the means and ways to help one another to move ahead, he said.
Commending the efforts of Muthameez Manan, head of the Tamil Media Association, to bring together various Tamil media organisations as well as political and social leaders at the event, he said it was reflective of what is possible when there is unity.
He also pointed out the crucial role played by the Tamil media in the progress of the community.
“The media must be brave to report on issues affecting the community and ways forward, but these must done with proper research,” he added.
Manan, who is also a member of the National Media Council, said this was the second time the association had organised the event in conjunction with Deepavalli (Oct 20) to show appreciation and to provide support to members of the Tamil media industry in the country.
He said the association’s members included almost all the Tamil media organisations in the country.
The event was officiated by Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, who also pledged his continued support for the association, raising his financial contribution to the association to RM25,000 this year. The minister also announced that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had pledged a contribution of RM50,000 for the association.
