More than 7,000 traffic offences committed in just over 48 hours at 5 “hotspots” in KL

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3: A total of 7,013 summons notices for various traffic offences were issued in Kuala Lumpur over the first two days of full enforcement of Op Pematuhan Undang-Undang (Op PUU) 2025, which began on Oct 1

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said of the total, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) issued 6,758 summonses, followed by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) with 215 and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) with 40.

He said the highest number of offences involved obstructing traffic (4,963 summonses), followed by ignoring traffic lights (389) and other violations (334).

“There will be no tolerance for errant motorists. We want to instil a culture among Kuala Lumpur residents of respecting the law, regardless of how minor the regulation may seem, whether related to traffic rules or roadblocks,” he said at a press conference today.

Fadil said that for the initial stage, Op PUU focused on public hotspots such as Pavilion, KLCC, Lot 10, Sogo and Jalan Sultan Ismail, before being expanded across the capital.

According to Fadil, the enforcement, which was held in collaboration with DBKL, JPJ and all police units, including the narcotics and commercial crime departments, will be carried out throughout the year in an effort to ensure that Kuala Lumpur becomes an example of a law-abiding city.

This is in line with preparations for Visit Malaysia 2026 and various other international events.

“If we don’t start in Kuala Lumpur, where else is more appropriate? We want to show the world that we are serious about educating the public to obey the law, even in matters such as traffic regulations,” he said.
