KOTA KINABALU, Sept 15 (Bernama) — Four more victims have been found dead in the Kampung Cenderakasih landslide incident here, bringing the death toll to five.
A spokesman of the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, when contacted, said the search and rescue team, with the help of residents, is currently searching for two more victims believed to still be buried in the incident.
“A total of 11 victims were reported to be involved, while four victims have safely exited,” he said.
He also said they received calls about the incident from the public at 10.02 am, before members of the Lintas Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 10.24 am.
The public is not encouraged to go to the scene at this time because the area is still dangerous and residents are advised to take precautions.
Meanwhile, two victims have been located and efforts are ongoing to extricate them after a landslide struck a house in Kampung Marahang Tuntul, near Papar, this morning.
The fire department confirmed that a third victim remains missing.
The incident was reported at 9.20 am, prompting the deployment of 16 personnel from the Papar Fire and Rescue Station to the site, approximately 13 kilometres away.
Further updates will be provided as the rescue operation progresses.
