Journalist exercises right to remain silent as police question him on article related to Sabah Mineral Management

PETALING JAYA, Aug 12: The editor of MalaysiaNow, Abdar Rahman Koya today exercised his constitutional right to remain silent when the police questioned him on an article carried by the news website related to Sabah Mineral Management.

The police had summoned him to give his statement following a report made by SMM on the article.

Abdar was accompanied by his lawer Rajesh Nagarajan. Abdar said he would answer the questions if he is charged in court.

Meanwhile, Rajesh said: “It is regrettable that journalists are called up for questioning when they publish articles based on the information given to them.”

The Press is an absolutely vital element of any functioning democracy, he added.
